Your impact
This individual will report directly to the Jacobs CIPP Construction Manager on an established public utility Capital Improvements Program. Working with other members of the team, you’ll provide construction inspection in an Owner's Agent or 3rd Party construction inspection role. During your time with us, you will observe, inspect, and document various construction projects as an Owner's Representative, as well as ensure compliance with design plans, contract specifications, and permit requirements.
Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate directly with the CM, other inspection staff and contractors to identify site coverage and inspection responsibilities daily.
- Review approved shop drawings, construction plans, and specifications and inspect active work against the approved contract documents to verify compliance, or identify any deviation from approved plans, then elevate to the construction manager and Owner.
- Prepare a daily field report documenting the status of the work, daily activities (including start and finish dates for CPM activities), manpower, equipment, and other observations.
- Maintain a continuous record of change orders and field changes on a set of contract documents.
- Maintain a continuous record of construction deficiencies and punch list items.
- Take photographs and videos of major construction activities. Prepare a database of the photographs with the date, subject matter, and photo number/file name.
- Verify quantities of work performed, materials used, and adequacy of the contractor’s resources.
- Verify time and materials expense reports from the construction contractor.
- Notify CIPP Construction Manager of potential construction problems.
- Attend progress and pre-construction meetings.
- Review contractor’s monthly invoice.
- Coordinate material testing requirements with material testing firm and the contractor.
- Prepare a pre-construction and post-construction video of the project site
- Observe and record progress and quality of pipe cleaning and TV inspection, point repairs by excavation, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) installations, manhole rehabilitation, and related trenchless activities.
- Review pipe and manhole videos to confirm pipe is clean, installed CIPP meets specifications, and service connections are properly opened.
- Periodically enter confined spaces (manholes or pipes) to inspect work.
- Monitor all aspects of site safety, with particular emphasis on confined space entries, trench support, and traffic control.
Here's what you'll need
- Minimum of high school diploma with 5-yrs of relevant constructionorfield inspectionexperience.
- Ability to monitor multiple activities at multiple sites daily.
- Ability to work fulltime, year-round in a combination field and office environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic writing and math skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative, team oriented perspective.
- Attention to detail and disciplined time management skills.
- A current VA State Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle required, compensation for which is at the IRS approved rate.
- Ideally, you’ll also have/be:
- Prior experience working on utility construction projects in the Public ROW.
- Have prior experience working with trenchless sewer rehabilitation technologies.
- Prior experience with pipe cleaning and CCTV inspection, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) installation, manhole rehabilitation, orpipe replacement.
- Able work on multiple tasks concurrently and to react to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Obtained an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management, or related technical field
- Located in theRichmond, VAMetro area or willing to commute daily at your own expense.
