As the APAC Head of Sustainability, you will play an important role in driving the Firm’s sustainability strategy and presence in the region. Demonstrating an exceptional understanding of sustainability issues in APAC – in particular climate and the energy transition – you will be a champion for the Firm on these topics. As a recognised and seasoned sustainability leader with a strategic mindset, you will leverage your deep network of external stakeholders across the region to understand emerging trends and engage with impact.
Job responsibilities
- Drive the APAC corporate sustainability strategy, in line with firmwide priorities and alongside partners across Lines of Business (LOBs) and corporate functions, tailoring to specific regional dynamics
- Identify regional sustainability-related risks and opportunities for JPMC, and work with partners across the firm on developing and executing appropriate strategic responses
- Work with senior leaders across the APAC franchise to help LOBs capitalize on growth opportunities, particularly in the green economy
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior JPMC leaders in the APAC region on sustainability issues, in particular climate and the energy transition
- Promote JPMC’s leadership on climate and the energy transition in the region, identifying opportunities to demonstrate thought leadership and build profile for the firm.
- Maintain and leverage a network of close relationships with senior external stakeholders in the region across strategically significant NGOs, trade bodies, think tanks, academic institutions and beyond
- Work with Corporate Responsibility and LOB partners in the region and globally to engage with senior policymakers and regulators, leveraging your deep sustainability subject matter expertise to offer insights and guidance
- Spearhead the firm’s presence at key external sustainability events in the region
- Lead the Corporate Sustainability team in the region, attracting the best talent to the Firm and developing exceptional sustainability professionals
- Close coordination with Sustainability Team colleagues globally and with other teams internally, including Global Government Relations, Legal and Compliance, Risk Management, Finance and Business Management, and our LOBs (e.g., Corporate & Investment Bank, Asset & Wealth Management)
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Minimum 15 years of experience in sustainability, whether through finance, business and/or consulting, preferably with a range of experience across different functions and/or fields.
- Deep experience in sustainability issues in APAC, especially climate and the energy transition, and demonstrable expertise in how these are relevant for a global financial services organization and its clients.
- A deep external network of senior sustainability professionals across the entire sustainability ecosystem in the region.
- Experience in developing and executing strategy, navigating complex organizations and being responsive to evolving dynamics.
- A good understanding of policymaking and the regulatory environment as it pertains to sustainability and financial services across the region.
- Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to distil and present complex information plainly and succinctly to a range of audiences, including at the most senior levels.
- Ease working across a range of complex issues; ability to learn new topics quickly, move between subjects and identify connections between different topic areas.
- Exceptional people management and organizational skills, including analytical and quantitative skills, critical thinking and decision-making.
- Ability to excel and maintain a positive attitude in a high-performance, fast-paced professional environment, including when faced with uncertainty.
