Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Construction Inspectorfor a full-time position to oversee the construction and operational compliance of MEP systems in large-scale commercial building projects, including transfer station facilities. This position requires 5+ years of experience in MEP systems inspection, with a particular focus on large commercial projects valued at $50 million or more. As an MEP Construction Inspector, you will ensure that all MEP systems meet local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations, guaranteeing both occupant safety and legal compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Monitor and inspect the work of contractors to ensure proper construction methods and techniques are utilized, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, submittals, drawings, change orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs) to confirm that the requirements of the construction contract are applied in the field.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including inspection logs, daily reports, digital photographic documentation, force account records, materials testing, and other construction records.
  • Identify, document, and track the resolution of contractor work that is out of compliance or deficient, ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly.
  • Assist in root cause analysis for any failed MEP equipment, developing preventative strategies to avoid future failures.
  • Work cross-functionally with project teams to ensure timely and effective coordination of MEP work and resolve any discrepancies or issues that arise during construction.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve any MEP-related issues or discrepancies.
  • Attend and participate in pre-installation and pre-construction meetings as required.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam and other relevant software to summarize inspection findings, analyze data, and track progress.
Here's what you'll need
  • 5+ years of experience in MEP inspection, with significant experience on large commercial projects ($50 million+ contracts).
  • Strong experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in commercial construction.
  • Proficient in computer programs, including Excel, Word, and Outlook for data analysis and reporting.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform site inspections, which may include walking, climbing, and working in varied environmental conditions.
  • Valid drivers license with good driving history.

Ideally you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical, or related field.
  • Experience with municipal or large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of commercial MEP systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and green building standards, such as LEED or Living Building Challenge (LBC).
