As a Staff Engineer and Tech Lead, you are the most seasoned individual contributor on the team. You will be the visionary architect and champion of our expansive Incentives and Stored Value platforms. You will be setting high standards for the entire team across engineering practice, architecture design, technical excellence, and prioritization. You will be leading by example in delivering results at these high standards on a daily basis. You will be empowering the entire team to continuously perfect capabilities, and consistently execute at the highest level. As a mentor in both technical and professional development, you will be playing a crucial role in the growth of many talented software engineers.

A Typical Day:

• Architect and lead the development of our next generation Incentives and Stored Value systems.
• Work closely with Product, Design, Policy, Operations and other cross-functional partners as part of a globally distributed team, to define and ship impactful features. Present product and technical deep dives to key stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor engineers — both inside and outside your immediate team.
• Advocate for and participate in efforts to advance Airbnb’s engineering processes and technical foundations. Drive systemic improvements by identifying patterns to streamline development, reduce toil and increase technical quality and operational excellence over time.

Your Expertise:

• A track record of 9+ years in the software development industry within a fast-paced tech environment.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
• Experience with Payments Systems is highly desirable
• Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages such as Java, Ruby, Go, C++, etc.
• Demonstrated excellence in designing architectural patterns for high-scale distributed products/services, including well-crafted APIs, robust data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
• Embrace an end-to-end ownership mentality, fostering collaboration across team boundaries.
• Passionate about cultivating strong relationships with engineering and product partners.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, making informed trade-offs to balance short-term business needs with long-term technical quality.
