What to Expect
The Sensing Hardware Team is responsible for architecting, designing, validating and integrating state-of-the-art sensing technologies for all Tesla vehicles and Optimus. The sensors we develop for Optimus support manipulation and locomotion. As a Sensor Hardware Engineer for Optimus, you will be responsible for overall performance of the sensing system and its features at any point in the product life cycle, serve as the owner of a given sensing system to address any issues discovered from development through deployment, understand and debug hardware and software interactions from prototyping through product launch, and manage priorities and support a host of projects simultaneously.
What You’ll Do
  • Drive the design and execution of sensing subsystems through Specification generation: Distill sensor product requirements into constraints and actionable engineering systems design discussions
  • Collaboration: Lead cross-functional sensor design discussions with electrical, software, supply chain, manufacturing, thermal, and mechanical teams
  • Architecture definition: Translate sensor design discussions into design documents in the form of system block diagrams, functional and performance requirements
  • Schematic design: Use EDA tools to define the electrical components and their connectivity
  • PCB Layout: Supervise the generation of board design files through all design phases
  • BOM Definition: Work with the supply chain team to ensure components will meet performance, cost & manufacturing requirements
  • Prototyping: Support early sensor prototype development to de-risk new technologies
  • Validation: Generate/execute the test plan that includes milestones that focus on de-risking product and/or feature deployment and align with the program timeline
  • Qualification: Ensure the hardware meets required design criteria across a host of environments and regulations while collaborating with the reliability, test and homologation teams
  • Production: Work with Manufacturing/Test teams and Suppliers to achieve high-volume mass production with high yield
  • As a Sensor Hardware Engineer, one must be able to be responsible for overall performance of the sensing system and its features at any point in the product life cycle, serve as the owner of a given sensing system to address any issues discovered from development through deployment, understand and debug hardware and software interactions from prototyping through product launch and manage priorities and support a host of projects simultaneously
What You’ll Bring
  • Fundamental knowledge of circuit design, analog analysis, sensor physics, and statistics
  • Strong electrical engineering background in board-level analog and mixed-signal design
  • Hands-on experience in system-level design, architecture, characterization and validation
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, SPICE, or similar simulation and modeling tools
  • Proficiency in data visualization and statistical analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in high-volume mass production
  • Experience in working with suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related fields with 8+ years of industry experience
