DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Kuiper Tooling, you will support the program on the transition from development into stable production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling.This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains.Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities- Design fixtures, mechanisms, and other types of hardware to support safe, efficient, and reliable testing of satellite components.
- Utilize engineering fundamentals to validate the design including hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis.
- Geometric design using 3D CAD (NX) for parts and assemblies and 2D engineering drawings to communicate design intent.A day in the life

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- BS in mechanical, structural or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years hardware design and testing experience
- 2+ years experience with hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Masters in mechanical, structural or aerospace engineering, or equivalent
