Core elements of the role include
- Advising on customs planning issues, trade compliance risks, anti-dumping and countervailing duties and import/export controls.
- Representing clients in trade-related investigations and disputes with customs authorities. This may involve negotiations, administrative hearings, or litigation.
- Advising on international trade agreements and domestic rules governing customs and trade
- Independently managing multiple assignments
- Conducting legal research and assisting with the drafting of memos, letters of opinion and various reports
- Developing and delivering timely services and work products that meet or exceed client expectations
- Collaborating with various EY practices including our EY Global Network
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A valid license to practice law in a Canadian province
- 1 or more years experience practicing in customs and trade law experience including
- direct experience practicing customs and trade law with experience from a reputable law firm.
- in-house experience with demonstrated customs and trade law experience; or
- experience at the Canada Border Services Agency, US Customs and Border Protection or the Canadian International Trade Tribunal
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities; functional French fluency is an asset
- A proactive approach to work, a high level of motivation and a commitment to a growing practice
This role will interact with external clients plus internal colleagues and stakeholders across Canada, therefore fluency in English is required. French – English bilingualism is an asset.
