Key job responsibilities
The Principal Robotics Systems Development Engineer will be responsible for:
• Designing architectures for robotics and industrial automation equipment
• Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives to establish system requirements and goals
• Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale
• Support hardware and software development for experimental and prototype robotic systems
• Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation
• Drive and prioritize execution of system test campaigns that span lab and field testing environments in partnership with subsystem development and test teams (test readiness reviews, test execution, post-test analysis and reporting)
• Perform technical gap analysis in support of organizational strategy and technical roadmap development
• Mentor junior engineers in engineering best practices, and participate in hiring of new team members
- BS / MS Electrical Engineering (or similar field)
- 9 years of experience in complex hardware/software systems
- Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction – from system to the “nuts and bolts” implementation
- Hands on experience developing hardware and software prototypes
- Solid debugging skills and the ability to diagnose and solve difficult problems
- Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and linking those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs
- Experience participating in technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g., hardware engineering, software engineering, program management)
- 12+ years of experience designing controls for robotics and industrial automation equipment
