APPLE INC has the following available in San Diego, California. Bring up proof-of-concept prototypes and demons to help design teams explore and evaluate new interactions. Architect low-latency, end-to-end haptics solutions with touch/force sensors by collecting requirements, constructing block diagrams, and reviewing hardware schematics. Negotiate and specify communication protocols, operating modes, and feature requirements with the software driver teams. Develop and document firmware features on prototype hardware and custom silicon, integrate actuator control algorithms with tight, real-time requirements using DSP concepts, while working with factory teams to meet test and calibration requirements. Being responsible for bench-testing firmware to ensure it meets performance, power, and thermal requirements. Debug and root cause issues with QA to deliver high-quality, robust firmware to production. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that the firmware is written in a way that follows the expectations of the control experts, testing leads, etc. Communicate with team peers and management for alignment on work items, due dates, priorities, etc. Domestic & International Travel Required 5%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $152,776 - $204,000/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 3 years of experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Writing firmware in C/C++ to deploy into user-facing devices and interactions.
  • Experience bringing up prototype devices to feed into shipping product definitions.
  • Understanding microprocessor architectures, peripherals, and hardware blocks, such as DMA/shared memory, SRAM, DRAM, and FPU, and experience providing input on selecting processors and architectures for future products.
  • Understanding controller communications buses such as I2C, SPI, and I2S to allow devices to share real-time information.
  • Understanding basic electrical concepts to provide useful feedback in hardware schematic reviews.
  • Utilize multiple methods, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and hardware debuggers, to test and debug firmware.
  • Developing documentation for implemented firmware and its interactions with hardware and software.
  • Working with cross-functional partners to architect solutions for firmware features and ensuring meeting the requirements.
