As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within Corporate Technology, you will lead a technical area and drive impact across teams, technologies, and projects within departments. As part of Data Products Engineering, you will create engineering designs, establish best practices, and develop guidelines and procedures, along with repeatable and scalable frameworks to manage large volumes of data effectively, ensuring compliance with data classification requirements while maintaining data integrity and accessibility. You will design strategically while building applications that address real-world use cases. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and a driver of innovation and solution delivery. As a leader in Corporate Technology, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable cloud-native foundational data solutions.
Job responsibilities
- Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives.
- Provides critical day-to-day leadership and strategic thinking, working with teams of architects to align cross-functional projects, ensuring they are feasible both fiscally and technically.
- Designs strategically while building applications that address real-world use cases. Creates logical designs, describes their deployment on physical platforms, and builds applications based on these designs, recognizing alternatives, and proposing choices throughout the process.
- Makes decisions that influence teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
- Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures.
- Champions the firm’s culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills.
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
- Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists.
- Strong software engineering and object-oriented programming skills with expertise in languages such as Python and Java; and open-source frameworks/libraries, such as Apache Spark, Apache Airflow
- Expertise in application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines with practical cloud native experience.
- Expertise in modernization using micro-front-end patterns, micro-services & APIs, Event Driven Architecture, Containerization/Kubernetes, and NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of big data processing systems including Hadoop, EMR, Apache-Spark, AWS Glue and Data Bricks.
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
- Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager
- Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience in architecting for private and public cloud environments, with a preference for Amazon Web Services, and in re-engineering and migrating on-premises data solutions to the cloud.
- Proficiency in building on emerging cloud serverless managed services to minimize or eliminate physical and virtual server footprints.
- Expertise in developing applications for real-time streaming using technologies such as Apache Spark Streaming, Apache Kafka, and Amazon Kinesis.
- Background in containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes, Docker, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Apache Airflow and Amazon Elastic Container Service
