About the team: As a Sr Director, Technical Program Management in Capital One’s Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team, you will bring together the product, technical and line of business teams to build and leverage Generative AI and other Machine Learning technologies to execute our business strategies. You will deliver outsized and measurable outcomes by defining and guiding objectives, creating technical requirements and roadmaps, and collaborating cross-organizationally to deliver our Generative AI and ML platforms and products. This requires a strong technical background, solid system architecture skills and effective communication across functions.

In addition to managing technical programs, you will also strengthen the foundation of an expanding TPM discipline within the company, by leveraging your experience and industry knowledge to teach the organization what a great TPM can achieve.

Our TPM Sr. Directors have:

  • Strong technical background (engineering and building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery life-cycle

  • Experience building and leading world-class teams of technical engineers or program managers with a mission to power real-time, intelligent experiences for customers

  • Ability to lead technical discussions with senior leadership by providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technology-based decisions

  • Exceptional technical and non-technical communication skills and strong cross functional collaboration skills

  • Excellent problem solving, influencing skills and an organizational change agent

  • A quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative approach to solutions based on systems thinking

  • Experience in growing and developing a team of TPMs, and building a vibrant community to increase the impact of the TPM discipline

  • Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives

  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results driven.

  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.

  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep-seated empathy for teams and partners

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • At least 9 years of experience managing technical programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • 9+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing

  • 3+ years of experience with the full ML development lifecycle using modern technology in a business-critical setting. Previous experience with machine learning (building/deploying models, cloud infrastructure and/or data pipelines)

  • 3+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture, .e.g. AWS

  • 5+ years of experience building & leading experienced engineering or TPM teams

  • 5+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs using Agile and collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a variety of audiences

  • ML industry impact through conference presentations, papers, blog posts, open source contributions, or patents

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering)

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
