As a Senior Analytical Chemist in 3M Corporate Research Analytical Laboratory, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Providing analytical chemistry measurements for 3M corporate research laboratories and divisions
- Conducting analytical testing of 3M materials and products using chromatography techniques
- Preparing samples, operating analytical instruments, and documenting test results
- Leveraging and developing new and existing analytical techniques and methods to drive 3M advancements in science through GC analysis.
- Collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop innovative solutions.
- Applying knowledge of chemistry or chemical engineering to solve complex problems.
- Strengthening 3M’s proprietary position through development of intellectual property.
- Collaborating with global, multi-disciplinary teams to identify and implement new solutions toward customer applications.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Possess a PhD degree (completed and verified prior to start) in chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical engineering, or Microbiology from an accredited university plus two (2) years of experience in laboratory research in a private, public, government or military environment. This can include experience earned through a PhD program.
OR
- Masters degree with at least 4 years laboratory experience
OR
- Bachelors degree (completed and verified prior to start) with at least 6 years of laboratory experience.
AND
- Experience with Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy, especially in method development.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience either direct or through collaborations utilizing or developing data analytics tools
- Experience either direct or through collaborations utilizing laboratory automation tools
- Experience / proficiency in Python, Databricks, SQL, etc..
- Experience with routine preventative maintenance tasks for GC instruments. Not afraid to be “hands on” with the hardware.
