ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Principal Engineer for Data Analytics in HGA Manufacturing Engineering will lead data-driven initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes, improve quality, and enhance efficiency within HGA production. This role is crucial for developing and implementing advanced analytics strategies, interpreting complex data sets, and providing actionable insights to support decision-making in HGA manufacturing.

• As an expert on data analytic for HGA operation to support since ad hoc data gathering, data analysis, data visualization and create effective data analysis platform for fast and precise responding to special and routine requirement
• Design, develop, and implement custom software tools and applications for data analytics strategies that align with HGA manufacturing goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to define software requirements, user interfaces, and functionalities tailored to manufacturing needs.
• Analyze production data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that impact HGA yield, quality, and cycle time including defect and failure data to identify and mitigate recurring issues.
• Create predictive models to forecast manufacturing outcomes and provide proactive recommendations for process adjustments.
• Lead cross-functional data analytics projects from conception through to implementation, ensuring alignment with manufacturing engineering and business goals.
• Develop and implement process improvements and data-driven solutions to optimize manufacturing yield, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
• Lead root cause analysis of manufacturing issues using statistical techniques with actionable insights to engineering and production teams.

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ Years experience in data science, data analytic or related field
• Knowledge on software development languages (Python/R coding, Java, C++), database management (SQL, NoSQL), data analytics tools, and data visualization platforms.

• Work on a project-based assignment focused on developing a more systematic machine/tool setup with minimal or no human dependency, leveraging machine vision assistance (e.g., determining reference points such as adhesive needle touch flexure, slider touch flexure, etc.).
• Support initiatives to improve line utilization and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by reducing short stops, changeovers, and downtime, while increasing throughput and product quality
• Contribute to FAVI's first prime yield improvement by implementing AI solutions to check results, reducing reliance on manual operator inspection
• Study selected machines in production processes, identify the need for additional tools, sensors, or enhancements, and support prototype development to achieve the expected functionality.

Responsible in Read-Write Integration (RWI) related work for product improvement (yield/quality/test time)

• Lead and manage Read-Write integration (RWI) efforts aimed at improving product yield, quality, and test time
• Conduct failure analysis, providing insightful feedback to relevant teams for continuous improvement
• Actively engage in the early ramp-up of HAMR (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording) products, driving improvements related to Read-Write performance
• Collaborate with RWI Development, Head/Media teams to enhance product
• Support the qualification process for Head & Media Engineering Changes (ECs)

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering , or related field

PREFERRED:

• Knowledge of HDD failure analysis, reliability, HDD components, processes, and technologies
