The role of a Consumer Community Banking Control Manager is integral to the success of community banking. They are responsible for creating, monitoring, and maintaining consumer banking policies and procedures to ensure that the institution meets all applicable regulatory standards. In this role, they must have a deep knowledge of banking regulations, which includes specific consumer protections as outlined by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and applicable Federal Reserve regulations.
The Consumer Community Banking Control Manager must have the ability to identify risks and create or update policies to reduce exposure to those risks. They must be diligent in monitoring and testing internal controls to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Additionally, they are also called upon to review suspicious activity or any other potential violations.
This role works directly with various internal departments to ensure the bank follows rules and regulations. They must be an excellent communicator and collaborator as they will not only work with senior executives, but also with regulators when necessary.
To be successful in this role, the Consumer Community Banking Control Manager must have detailed knowledge of banking laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and possess strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. They must be able to stay up to date on industry trends and developments.
