Work Environment

Onsite at our antenna lab in San Jose CA.

When required and based on our projects' status, the lab technician may be required to work on an extended schedule to complete urgent tasks and should also be available for occasional international travel.

Responsibilities

Keeping the lab ready and fully operational to perform accurate antenna measurements; this includes having the anechoic chamber, vector and spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters, power supplies, and other electronic equipment calibrated, software updated and correlated to our partner labs.

Building reliable prototypes to verify antenna performance and generating detailed reports.

Purchasing, updating, and maintaining the stock of components, connectors, miscellaneous parts, tools, soldering equipment and general elements for the fabrication of prototypes.

Supporting and implementing experiment setups for the evaluation of novel technologies that include workstations interconnected to emulators, simulators, and data networks.

Creating and updating documentation with procedures, inventory, tasks and activities for the optimal operation of the lab.

Required Skills:
  • Proficiency and knowledge of SMT soldering technics for clean rework of PCB components, antennas, coax-cables, connectors, and other RF related components
  • Proficiency and understanding to build fixtures and prototypes for antenna measurements, testing, and evaluation including Styrofoam fixtures to provide physical support to the device
  • Proficiency with usage of anechoic chambers, VNAs, power meters, and spectrum analyzers
  • Proficiency to assemble and disassemble electronic devices
  • Ability to assemble equipment from the unboxing using the vendor's manual (printed or online)
  • Resourceful to find solutions to the challenges associated with running the antenna lab
  • Proficient with MS Office tools
Required Background and Knowledge

Understanding of the process for building, testing, debugging and fixing antennas for wireless devices.

Concepts that must be well understood:
  1. Antenna gain, efficiency, radiation patterns (3D, 2D, ripple), isolation
  2. Cabling and grounding of antennas

Certified/Accredited RF, Electrical or Electronics technician with two (2) years of experience in antenna measurements or an experienced candidate in the field with different academic degrees.

Familiarity with Cadence (PCB and Schematic design), LabVIEW, basic scripting
