Description
In this highly visible role, you will utilize your mechanical design engineering skills to bring products to the market. Your responsibilities as Mechanical engineers is to design next generation of input device products, portable and desktop computers, and modules to support the Mac and iOS product lines. Your responsibilities will span from technology development, concept generation to detailed design, analysis and testing through mass production ramp. developing initial product layouts and new technology conceptsdetailed design of mechanisms and sensorssupport technology investigations and developmentbuilding prototypes to validate function, manufacturability, and robustnessperform FEA or coordinate FEA activities to evaluate and optimize design conceptsanalyze data generated from builds and lab experimentsparticipate in design reviews to generate and receive constructive feedbackperform tolerance analyses to predict performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmeticcreate specifications, detailed design and 2D documentation of all parts and assemblieswork with operations teams to evaluate and develop supply chains capable ofmanufacturing new subsystems and productsinteracting with vendors to develop manufacturing processes and tooling conceptsdefine testing requirements and equipment and analyze the data producedsupport build activities including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progress
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS and above in Mechanical engineering or 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • fundamentals of engineering: strength of materials, material science, statics, heat transfer
  • good knowledge in design skills: tolerance analysis, mechanism design
  • design validation skills: identifying critical requirements and test methods to evaluate designs against them, strong failure analysis skills
  • computer aided design (CAD) skills: 3D CAD experience required(NX preferred), 2D drafting and GD&T
  • excellent communication skills: both written and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications
  • creative problem solving, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, excellent spatial reasoning skills, attention to detail
  • good knowledge in design skills: design for assembly/manufacturability, simple fixture design, design considerations for high volume manufacturing, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems)
  • broad range of materials and processes: metal machining basics, plastic injection/compression molding basics, designing with metals, designing with polymers, sheet metal design, material finishing basics
  • familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals and interconnect technologies is preferred
  • design validation skills: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), large data set analysis and computer-aided data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and mechanical prototyping
  • computer aided design (CAD) Skills: data exchange and working with printed circuit board (PCB) and flexible printed circuit (FPC), eCAD, electrical mechanical control outline (MCO) generation
  • build support experience in factory
  • experience working in a team environment and be self motivated to identify and close design issues
  • proficiency with high volume manufacturing processes is desired strong consideration will be given to those with a proven track record in precision mechanism and sensor design
  • industry experiences from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace and other fields with relevant technology and development models
