As a Specialist — Public Relations (PR), you will team with brand, marketing and communications (BMC) functions to develop thoughtful, integrated and forward-thinking PR strategies, approaches and materials to drive media coverage and engagement around a variety of business priorities.
Your key responsibilities
- Connect PR initiatives to business goals and broader objectives of the national BMC team.
- Provide interview prep/media training and strategic advice to leaders and spokespeople.
- Draft and edit press releases, key messages, briefing documents, talking points, statements, bylined articles, blogs and more.
- Develop and leverage relationships with national, local and trade media.
- Proactively work with internal clients to draft robust media and social media plans and materials for key industries, service lines, events, sponsorships and other initiatives.
- Follow news cycles and market trends to identify proactive opportunities.
- Distill complex, technical material into compelling, newsworthy content with unique points of view and line of sight into content whitespace areas in the market.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare weekly coverage updates, as well as quarterly reports.
- Develop and manage a database of media contacts and build targeted media lists for initiatives.
- Lead formal media training for identified spokespeople and leaders.
- Assist with communications planning to manage crisis response and issues-based inquiries.
- Liaise with translators, digital and social experts, marketing teams and internal stakeholders.

- Familiarity using media monitoring tools, such as Cision and/or Meltwater.
To qualify for the role you must have
- Post-secondary education in communications, public/media relations, journalism or related field (post-grad certificate in PR preferred).
- Proficiency in English, French is an asset.[VM1]
- Minimum three to five years’ experience in a related field.
- Outstanding written, oral and presentation skills.
- Existing relationships with Canadian media.
- Previous digital channel or social media copy development experience is considered an asset.

The salary range for this job in British Columbia is $68,000 to $102,000. Individual salaries within this range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and work location city.
