JOB SUMMARY
In this role, you will report to the site Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to support the planning and implementation of environmental health and safety programs by developing and maintaining a comprehensive occupational safety program for the facility including safety inspections, participate on incident investigations, develop and provide HSE training and perform related tasks as assigned. The HSE Specialist will help ensure conformity to applicable federal, state, and local standards related to environmental compliance and occupational health and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Guide and promote employee health and safety performance by assisting on developing health and safety systems, programs and procedures to
- Prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and enhance the overall site safety culture resulting in management engagement, employee involvement and the reduction in unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Participate on incident investigations to guide on finding root causes and identifying aligned long-term corrective actions.
- Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental, safety and occupational hazards and weaknesses, to promote effective.
- Practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement.
- Participates, review and approves risk assessments such as:
- Job Safety Analysis, new processes, new chemicals and personal protective equipment
- Support all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation and documentation.
- Educate employees on how to prevent health problems using safety training programs.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies.
- Participate on projects for new equipment or improvement as safety representative.
- Contributes to and/or plans and executes HSE, Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility (CR) related projects. Develops and reports on project objectives.
- Manages project resources such as manpower, financials and other relevant factors.
- Recommend changes to protect workers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

Travel Requirements
- 5%: Up to 13 business days per year
Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force frequently constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of force greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
