The primary responsibilities of the role are:
• Lead technical input and direction in the design, rehabilitation and management of Rail Overhead infrastructure for light and heavy rail. This
will have a primary focus on OHW and interfacing power systems.
• Develop, design and facilitate the documentation of Rail Overhead engineering solutions in response to a client’s brief to an industry standard
• Lead technical input and undertake Rail Overhead wiring design for Transport projects in accordance with relevant local and Australian
• Lead the coordination and communication of Rail Overhead wiring designs with other disciplines
• Lead the preparation of design drawings, technical specifications and design /project reports
• Encourage and lead the development and maintaining of good relationships with colleagues and clients, both internal and external to
support successful project outcomes
• Assist project/design manager in the control/reporting of project
• Maintain and encourage wider team competency in the field of Rail Overhead engineering and stay up-to-date with contemporary practice and
trends in the industry.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and take an active role in their technical development.
• Practice ethically and professionally.
This role will involve travel and short to medium term secondments to interstate and international offices to support the broader Jacobs business as required.
- Bachelor level degree
- Chartered Professional Engineer
- Experience in Project Management tools
- 8-14 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of preparing Rail Overhead Wiring Design in AC or DC including the preparation of Overhead Design Layouts, Cross Sections, Droppers, Bill of Materials and Fittings. (Train 1500V DC, Tram 600V DC and preferably 25V AC)
- Strong understanding of design principles and methods of catenary and contact wire systems (fixed and auto-tensioned)
- Strong understanding of the multi-disciplinary interfaces with OHW systems including structural design, considerations for support structures and foundations, electrical design consideration for traction power components and civil design considerations for civil interfaces.
- Strong understanding of technical standards for design, construction and maintenance.
- Extensive technical experience in discipline(s) relevant to design, including Rail Overhead design.
- Significant experience on large projects
- Extensive knowledge of the local environment, relevant industry, particularly working within the Victorian Rail Industry, VROIGS and local
Tier 1 contractors.
- Extensive knowledge of structural, electrical or mechanical design of overhead wiring systems
- Any knowledge of Rail Overhead Wiring Design in AC or DC including the preparation of Overhead Design Layouts, Cross Sections, Droppers, Bill of Materials and Fittings, is beneficial but not essential.
