The GCR team has specialist tax and finance skill sets spanning the areas of Indirect Tax Compliance, Service Management, Direct Tax Compliance & Reporting, Statutory Reporting, Tax Data Operations, Finance BPO, Funds Tax Management, and Payroll. Our indirect tax compliance professionals support large multinational clients with their indirect tax obligations regionally and globally. Dealing with the indirect tax compliance requirements is the heart of the operations but this goes hand in hand with VAT advisory, data and technology support which we provide or coordinate with our specialist teams. We apply a client centric approach meaning that our professionals are organized per client, and not per country or region, to maximize the knowledge of our client’s business.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you will be working on a selection of clients in relation to VAT/GST compliance outsourced to EY, including:

  • Acting as central point of contact – liaise with your international clients and colleagues with respect to regional and global VAT and VAT compliance.
  • Monitoring, and giving feedback on, the quality of our client’s indirect tax data (using AI and other technologies) and reports of your clients.
  • Review and approve indirect tax returns.
  • Follow up on legislative changes and business changes in order to ensure that our client’s systems and/or processes are updated.
  • Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve the VAT compliance processes and our client’s data.
  • Coordinate VAT compliance advisory, technology, controversy and audit support.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and report to the client’s Process Owner at EY (Senior Manager or above).
  • Supervise and coach junior team members.
  • Actively participate in the training and coaching sessions in your development plan to ensure continuous development of your technical knowledge.
  • Potential short to medium term secondments to client sites based in your home country.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Experience in EMEIA and/or APAC VAT compliance, VAT Reporting or Accountancy, including reconciliations, either in industry or with other service providers.
  • Interest and curiosity in data interrogation and AI.
  • Basic understanding of other compliance activities.
  • Basic understanding of IT-systems and/or VAT/GST reporting solutions.
  • The ability to work legally in Malaysia.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Fluency in English – written and spoken. Any additional language is an asset.
  • Excellent communication across cultures and within a virtual working environment.
