KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage local GAAP/IFRS tax accounting functions in Chile and Peru, including permanent/temporary differences, deferred tax inventory, return to provision adjustments, valuation allowance, uncertain tax positions, effective tax rate reconciliation, and tax accounts reconciliation.
  • Prepare the monthly tax journal entries and tax reporting packages required by global headquarters, including forecasts of cash tax payments and risk/opportunity analysis depending on business performance.
  • Monitor development in IFRS accounting standards, tax legislation and practice of tax authorities, ensure the potential impact is properly considered in current taxable income or projections as well as any opportunities that may exist. Effectively communicate the potential impact to stakeholders (both locally and globally) and propose mitigating actions.
  • Collaborate with accounting, financial planning and analysis, and treasury staff to understand transactions and data that flow into or otherwise impact the income tax provision.
  • Manage all planning, compliance, and reporting activities for all corporate taxes in Chile and Peru, including corporate income tax and VAT.
  • Lead tax audits, including interactions with tax officials, design of defence strategies, coordination of external advisors etc.
  • Be responsible that all Chile and Peru tax filings are made on a timely basis and with a high level of quality.
  • Prepare annual transfer pricing documentation, defence files, and submissions in case of audits and assessments, as well as ongoing monitoring of profitability levels in Chile and Peru on an ongoing basis. Regular interaction with regional and global transfer pricing teams required.
  • Promote and embrace improvements to processes and automation initiatives.
  • Manage relationship and cost of tax advisors, including determining the work that can be done in-house vs outsourced.
  • Support and partner with other local business leadership teams for ad hoc projects.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Robust accounting knowledge.
  • Exposure to Treasury, operational business teams and M&A.
  • Proven experience in leading projects and co-ordinating with other functions.
  • Must be able to achieve results in a complex and multi-functional environment.
  • The person must be resourceful and indepedent, with a focus on efficient cost management and maximising the use of internal resources.
  • Must be a team player with “hands-on” mentality and by adopting a proactive approach towards day-to-day handling of tasks and projects.
  • Person must be creative both in terms of new ideas, new ways to operate, improve and work with other teams.
  • Strong organization skills and high attention to details.
  • Must be able to learn quickly and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Experience:

  • 5 years of broad experience with Chile and/or Peru taxes in a multinational group.
  • Experience with large accounting firms or in-house tax functions of multinational corporations (ideally in manufacturing industry).
  • Extensive experience with tax accounting and reporting, including documentation of uncertain tax positions.
  • Experience dealing with government authorities and managing audits for all tax matters (income tax, VAT, transfer pricing, withholding taxes etc.).

Languages:

  • Extremely important that communication must be in very clear and plain language (Spanish and English). Capable of communicating complex tax issues in layman’s terms to be understood by those with no tax background.
