Based in any US location, this position requires a strong grasp of style, mechanics, and tone, advanced skills in writing across multiple genres, the ability to communicate technical content to a broad audience, and the ability to synthesize disparate content into a cohesive narrative. Responsibilities for this position include editing for grammar and style for a variety of architect-engineering submittals to grow and cultivate our US federal and private sector business. While editing responsibilities and needs are the priority, you may occasionally be expected to write portions of proposals, as needed.
You should be a self-motivated professional with at least three years of demonstrated experience in a related field, with a demonstrated history of working with teams to edit and develop content. The successful candidate balances leadership with hands-on capability and editing skills.
As an
Editoryou will:
- Follow our prescribed “Jacobs Voice” style and apply it consistently across an entire document as you edit.
- Edit content developed by multiple authors into one consistent voice.
- Edit content for clarity, comprehension by non-experts, and grammatical correctness.
- Read for meaning while editing to flag areas of inconsistency or potential errors.
- Proactively communicate issues, seek input and support, and help develop solutions in a timely manner.
- Prioritize own work to meet proposal/team deliverable deadlines.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and active listening skills.
- Work across multiple business lines with diverse teams.
- Work in a demanding, fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
- Follow enterprise health and safety policies and procedures and escalate issues, if needed.
- BS/BA in journalism, English, communication, or other humanities or technical discipline OR 5+ years of relevant editing experience in lieu of degree.
- 3+ years of relevant experience editing content for multiple document and presentation types, preferably for sales or business development deliverables.
- Advanced English writing, editing and proofreading skills, with an eye towards sales messaging, themes, proposal aesthetics, quality, and content.
- Team player, comfortable and flexible working with a variety of personalities and team compositions.
- Well organized, able to manage multiple tasks concurrently and engage with various stakeholders/reviewers.
- Ability to work successfully with diverse teams, from junior inside sales staff to senior company leaders.
- Ability to work independently and proactively resolve issues to meet deadlines.
