Your Role and Responsibilities- Execute benchmarks to identify hotspots/bottlenecks in the z/VM implementation
- Evaluate the performance across the IBM zSystems and IBM LinuxONE servers
- Suggest and implement platform specific changes/improvements using prototypes as Proofpoint
- Contribute to performance study by executing benchmarks and collecting various performance measurements and metrics
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to share/borrow best practices in the performance arena
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Working knowledge of Operating System Linux/Unix
- Thorough understanding of hardware & systems architecture
- Strong understanding of Virtualization (working experience either with z/VM, PowerVM, KVM, Xen, VMware, etc.)
- Hands-on experience in Systems software & Performance testing
- Knowledge of whole-stack performance analysis and problem determination, quick prototyping and iterative experimentation
- Strong team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a global team environment
- Proven command over the English language, both written and verbal
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Kernel concepts and Internals (Process Management, Memory Management, Virtualization, Scheduling, Networking, Security, etc.)
- Proficient programming skills for automation and usage of frameworks using scripting using shell, python, perl etc. is desirable
- Experience working with debuggers and demonstrated problem-solving skills, especially code optimization
- Familiar with Software Performance tools and benchmarks
- Prior experience on performance engineering and tuning/optimization is desirable
- Flexible to pick up and ramp up quickly on different aspects of Linux performance and adjoining areas, depending on dynamic business priorities
- Working knowledge of transactional workloads like DayTrader, Oracle, MongoDb, Postgress/SQL, etc. is preferred
- Familiarity of Cloud associated workloads especially leveraging the RedHat OpenShift platform
