As an
Embedded Systems and RF Engineer in R&Dyou will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Developing electronics hardware and firmware to create new opportunities for 3M
- Designing, debugging and testing general embedded systems, including firmware and electronics
- Utilizing RF (Radiofrequency) technologies to develop innovative products, materials and methods with state-of-the-art modeling tools and testing facilities
- Conducting high-frequency (RF) testing on antennas, structures, wireless interfaces, and materials using state-of-the-art measurement equipment, also including EMC/EMI testing of electronic prototypes
- Programming microcontrollers in embedded C, C++ using current embedded-systems development environments and debugging tools
- Collaborating with global research teams in corporate research and business labs to build capabilities and applications to solve emerging customer challenges
- Supporting the filing of patent applications, publishing, and presenting research work at conferences
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
- Holding an M.S. or Ph.D. degree, or post-doctoral fellowship in Communication Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field from an accredited university (candidates nearing completion will also be considered)
- Experience with RF technology, hardware design, and firmware development through academic projects, internships, or work experience
- Hands-on experience with measurement tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers, and safe handling of high-frequency equipment
- Skilled in programming embedded systems, with knowledge of C, Python, preferably freeRTOS, Linux and ST Cortex
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Familiarity with EMC standards, measurement requirements, and data interpretation
- Profound knowledge of electromagnetic theory, experience in using modelling tools like CST Studio Suite, HFSS and/or Matlab
- Strong scientific and technical skills, with the ability to connect science/technology to real-world problems
- Leadership qualities such as excellent communication, networking skills, self-motivation, and self-direction
