What to Expect

The Sr. Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist, Commercial Energy drives EHS process excellence, ensures regulatory compliance, and minimizes risks across Commercial, Industrial, and Utility Energy product deployments in North America.

Based in Fremont, California or Austin, Texas, the position requires frequent and extended travel based on business needs.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop partnerships and serve as an EHS advisor to Tesla Energy business leaders, ensuring legal compliance and safe product deployment
  • Serve as a technical expert in the safe design, installation, construction, and operation of Tesla energy products
  • Support the development and execution of Tesla's Safety programs for Utility and Commercial Deployments
  • Identify operational gaps and drive innovative EHS solutions with cross-functional teams
  • Investigate EHS events, determine causes and preventative actions, and implement Human & Organizational Performance principles.
  • Conduct field observations to verify EHS compliance, document findings, and review improvement opportunities with stakeholders
  • Lead EHS meetings to communicate improvements, event learnings, and performance, and train teams on EHS concepts to reduce risk
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum three years of progressive EHS experience in a large organization plus a degree in an EHS-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries, with a preference for knowledge of lithium-ion battery storage
  • Practical experience in construction safety, working at heights, electrical safety, and environmental risks, with knowledge of local and national regulatory agencies
  • Detailed knowledge and practical, hands-on experience in developing and deploying electrical safety programs under OSHA and NFPA70 requirements
  • Ability to execute responsibilities in a fast-paced global organization using a 'first-principles' approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with various stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with EHS regulatory systems and policy in the United States (plus Canada, Mexico, and South America) is preferred, as is proficiency in the MS Office 365 Suite
