This role will be based in Singapore, reporting to the APAC Lead on Indirect Taxes


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Advise on all business initiatives, transactions, new product launches, commercial arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, and vendor/partner agreements

  • Monitor, analyze and evaluate the impact of all indirect tax regulatory developments impacting PayPal, and initiate/execute system and process changes as relevant

  • Build strong relationships across business and finance teams as well as other stakeholders and provide clear, consistent, and comprehensive indirect tax guidance in a timely manner

  • Manage indirect tax controversy, including researching issues under audit and presenting options for resolution to the Tax Leadership team, and ensuring comprehensive and timely responses to the Taxauthorities

  • Collaborate with all other teams within the Tax department to ensure all aspects of other taxes are considered when providing indirect tax advice

  • Support other teams within the Tax department on department-wide initiatives and deliverables

  • Provide guidance on compliance processes and identify and help improve any gaps in processes

  • Design and provide regular training on indirect taxes to the relevant teams, including AP, R2R and various business teams

  • Develop a strong understanding of PayPal’s business and operating structure

  • Develop plans and strategies to mitigate indirect tax risks and optimize opportunities.

In your day-to-day role you will:-

  • Understand the nature of the business transactions, respond to queries, collaborate with other functions and provide indirect tax guidance on the business transactions

  • Where necessary, work with Compliance teams to operationalize new compliance procedures for effectively recording the indirect taxes

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities, qualifications and experiences:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Law or a related field from an accredited institution

  • 6+ years of indirect tax experience from working in public accounting firms and / or large multinational corporations

  • Knowledge of project planning and execution in relation to indirect tax regulatory changes

  • Good command of English, with excellent written, oral and presentation skills as well as the ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly to non-tax audiences

  • Self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Critical thinker, with the ability to work across regions and functions in a fast-paced environment

  • Exposure to ERPs (such as SAP) would be an advantage
