You will be working with a variety of clients at the forefront of technology, including some of the largest global corporations, to evaluate and prepare their Government Incentive proposals and applications. You will work closely with our clients’ engineers, scientists and finance teams and will be responsible for identifying and analysing technological aspects of their projects against legislative criteria.
This role will require you to champion collaboration within a geographically diverse, team-based consultancy environment with a strong focus on training, mentoring and team recruitment activities. It will also require you to have strong technical knowledge, technical report writing skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and project management skills.

• Apply your Government Incentives experience to lead teams that identify Government Incentives opportunities for client projects in fields including, but not limited to, software development, cyber security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, health/life sciences, manufacturing, and process engineering. Australian and/or New Zealand government incentives experience will be viewed favourably.
• Facilitate client-facing discussions with client subject matter experts, such as, project managers, software development teams, engineers and finance team members (e.g., CFO, Head of Finance, Head of Tax) to discuss the technological, commercial and financial aspects of their projects.
• From these discussions, support clients to identify opportunities for claiming activities and expenditure under available Government Incentives programs.
• Review and analyse client technical and commercial documentation to assist with formulating assessment in relation to Government Incentive eligibility (including identification of risks and opportunities).
• Review deliverables prepared by your team, including technical project descriptions that detail the client’s R&D activities, grant applications, expenditure calculations, letters of opinion and supporting documentation.
• Work with the Australian and New Zealand Government Incentive team to co-develop and implement a comprehensive local training program that supports team members develop their tax technical and commercial skills as required for their respective rank.
• Manage workflow of local Government Incentives personnel to maximise staff opportunities and team efficiencies.
• Act as a coach for Consultants and Senior Consultants to support their ongoing professional development at EY.
• 6+ years preparing R&D tax incentive and grant applications.
• 2+ years of relevant work experience within Science or Engineering disciplines where you have encountered first-hand the technological challenges and/or engineering/programming issues faced by industry professionals.
• University degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business, Law, Science or Engineering .
• Demonstrable experience in in managing teams, including training and mentoring staff within geographically diverse, team-based and consultancy environments
• Excellent English communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft software, including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook and Word
• Genuine interest in business, innovation, and technology, along with a curious mindset and the ability to work with ambiguity to help shape and form an opinion.
• Strong relationship builder with excellent influencing and questioning skills.
• Problem solving skills and ability to work with complex and detailed information.
• Strong time management and task management skills, allowing you to handle and manage multiple concurrent engagement tasks, timelines, and stakeholders.
• Undertaken additional studies to understand taxation, accounting and political systems within Australia and/or New Zealand
• Experience preparing R&D tax incentive and government grant applications for Australian and/or New Zealand businesses
• Experience utilising software improve administrative or process efficiencies such as AI or data visualisation tools
