INDIA Tax Leader

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The India Tax Leader will report to India CFO and with additional functional reporting to Vice President International Tax and be responsible for all tax matters for the India region including Sri Lanka (approximately 4 entities). Responsibilities will include:

  • Be the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for the countries in scope, building strong cross-functional relationships globally and operate as a business partner and not only an in-house tax advisor
  • Develop and lead a team of tax professionals to effectively and efficiently support all areas of tax in the India region
  • Ensure that indirect and direct tax compliance is accurate and timely completion of tax disclosures in accounts, corporate tax returns and other compliance filings
  • Work with shared service centres and other tax team members to ensure indirect tax compliance requirements are met and cashflow and cost opportunities / risks are identified and managed. Partner with the Global Indirect tax leader to drive and support global indirect tax strategies and process improvements where applicable
  • Support the global transfer pricing leader and external advisors to ensure the group’s global transfer pricing policies are implemented, monitored and communicated with local stakeholders. This includes collaborating with the local and global Trade Compliance teams to identify and manage risks and opportunities
  • Lead tax authority communications including tax controversy and audits and partner with the global functional tax experts to support the appropriate strategy
  • Lead the identification of and claims for any incentives and monitor ongoing incentive regimes, working with external advisors to support claims where required
  • Support the US Provision team in all aspects of US GAAP reporting relating to the entities in scope, including cash tax forecasting and payments, quarterly provision, return to provision and uncertain tax positions
  • Lead / support tax matters relating to business transformation, M&A activities. Partner closely with global planning and transfer pricing leads and other country tax leaders to ensure a global approach to projects
  • Keep up-to-date with legislation developments and communicate to the team and support other projects relevant to the region, and more broadly, including BEPS and tax reforms

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires the following qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 20 years relevant International Corporate Income Tax experience, Transfer Pricing and Indirect Tax experience preferably with Big 4 Experience or Large MNC Corporates in the Manufacturing Sector
  • Assessment Experience will be an added advantage
  • Expert corporate income tax, indirect tax and Transfer Pricing knowledge in the countries in scope, including understanding of international technical topics such as transfer pricing, DEMPE, tax treaty application, and interaction between local statutory filings and tax returns
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English and in local language, leadership abilities and ability to collaborate across the global function and organization
