MENA – Tax Policy & Controversy, Manager

The role involves leading client engagements on complex tax policy developments, managing tax disputes, and shaping strategies to help organizations navigate a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. As a manager, you will be responsible for project delivery, client relationship management, and team leadership, while also contributing to the growth and development of the practice.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead client engagements on tax policy and controversy matters, ensuring delivery of high-quality, timely advice.
  • Advise multinational clients on legislative and regulatory changes impacting their tax positions and business operations.
  • Manage tax controversy cases, including audits, disputes, and negotiations with tax authorities.
  • Draft and review technical position papers, policy submissions, and advocacy materials.
  • Provide strategic insights on global tax developments, including OECD initiatives, Pillar One and Two, and cross-border tax measures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Manage engagement teams, mentor junior staff, and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.

To qualify for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Taxation, Economics, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree (LLM, master’s in taxation or equivalent) preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in tax policy, controversy working for a Big 4, law firm, government, multinational corporation.
  • Strong understanding of domestic and international tax regimes, audit practices, and dispute resolution frameworks.
  • Proven track record in managing client relationships and delivering complex tax projects.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with strong business acumen.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Direct experience engaging with tax authorities and policymakers.
  • Deep knowledge of OECD tax reform initiatives, cross-border tax policies, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
  • Experience in public policy advocacy, litigation support, or arbitration.
  • Established network within the tax, regulatory, or policy community.
