Your key responsibilities
- Deliver timely and high-quality payroll operate services that exceed client expectations, maintaining daily communication with EY Canadian payroll team to ensure accuracy and punctuality
- Exhibit professionalism through a positive, cooperative attitude, maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products, and responding to queries from clients and internal stakeholders in a timely manner
- Cultivate strong relationships within EY and with clients, demonstrating a deep understanding of client businesses
- Build on technical competence by keeping up to date on Canadian payroll trends, developments and regulations and applying them to moderately complex situations and undertaking non-routine and routine project-type work as requested by clients
- Support the collection of client data as per agreed payroll calendar and other requirements and conduct review of each payroll run for each client assigned
- Ensure accurate employee records are maintained in EY’s payroll database e.g.; new hires, salary changes, terminations, etc
- Ensure the payroll processes/procedure documentation is relevant, up-to-date and is utilized effectively
- Take ownership of client payrolls assigned including additional tasks & projects and has ability to make decisions and while having a strong ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
- Involvement in year end processing of tax slips and related client filings by applicable due dates
- Contribute to the overall success of the team by developing a thorough understanding of EY methodologies and tools to enhance payroll service delivery; keeping team members informed of work status; actively seeking assignments when unassigned; proactively seeking opportunities to provide payroll services; challenging traditional procedures used in the past; and attempting to find new approaches and process improvement opportunities
- Manage client escalations and ask/refer to senior team members for help
Skills and attributes for success
- Comprehensive knowledge of complex payroll processes across Canada (including Quebec)
- French / English bilingual proficiency is essential; This role involves interaction with clients operating nationally and globally where fluency in French and English is required. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role
- Strong understanding of the complete payroll cycle and other related finance activities – banking and the payroll journal entry
- Excellent organizational skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and strong desire to learn
- Strong analytical skills, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical acumen, with proficiency in Excel
- Collaborative mindset combined with a proactive and enthusiastic attitude
- Strong client service orientation and commitment to enhancing service delivery through EY methodologies and tools
Ideally, you’ll also have
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance
- 2-5 years of relevant payroll or equivalent experience in business or industry
- Experience with various payroll software, Workzoom and Nethris experience is a strong asset
- The Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is preferred
