Part-time - Full-time ( 20 - 40 hrs./week)
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Back-End Developers, UX/UI Designers, Product Owners, and Business Stakeholders, to align on performance goals, priorities, and implementation strategies
- Communicate performance insights, progress, and recommendations effectively through technical reports, dashboards, and business-friendly readouts
- Partner with third-party consultants to benchmark SAP.com’s performance against industry best practices and identify optimization opportunities
- Support internal awareness initiatives, maintain the performance program’s SharePoint site, draft internal email communications, and driving cross-organizational training efforts on web performance
Front-End Performance Optimization
- Collaborate with the Front-End Development team to optimize HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for improved website speed and efficiency
- Identify and address rendering bottlenecks, optimize critical rendering paths, and reduce page load times across desktop and mobile
- Implement responsive design techniques and best practices to ensure fast-loading, mobile-friendly experiences across various devices and screen sizes
- Work on third-party script governance and optimization, asset management, lazy loading strategies, and CDN utilization to enhance performance
Performance Testing & Data Analysis
- Conduct synthetic and real-user monitoring (RUM) tests using tools like Splunk Synthetic Monitoring, WebPageTest, Lighthouse, ObservePoint, or similar testing and data insights SaaS platforms
- Analyze Core Web Vitals, Speed Index, FCP, LCP, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Work with Data Analysts, Performance Engineers, or Business Leads to correlate web performance data with user behavior and business impact
- Generate reports and actionable insights to drive continuous optimization efforts and support data-driven decision-making
- Develop automated performance monitoring and alerting mechanisms to detect regressions early and proactively address issues
Performance Best Practices & Industry Trends
- Stay up to date with the latest web performance optimization trends, front-end engineering best practices, and emerging technologies
- Advocate for a performance-first mindset, educating teams on web performance methodologies, tools, and testing strategies
- Recommend and implement innovative solutions to enhance SAP.com’s speed, scalability, and overall user experience
- Support A/B testing efforts, site redesigns, and performance regression testing to ensure performance remains a key priority in digital transformations

QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development, web design, project management, data analytics, or a related field; see related responsibilities listed above
- Understanding of web speed performance metrics, such as Core Web Vitals strategy and metric threshold requirements
- Experience in Front-End Engineering with expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design
- Willingness to acquire new skills to meet evolving needs
- Familiarity with web performance optimization techniques, web debugging and profiling tools, and best practices
- Strong data analysis skills and experience with performance monitoring tools and data visualization
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working with a geographically distributed software development team
- General knowledge of Agile methodologies
- Ability to complete tasks promptly

BASELINE KNOWLEDGE
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

- Awareness of industry standard web speed performance tools, e.g., WebPageTest.org, Google Pagespeed Insights, and Google Lighthouse
- Experience using various modern browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
- General knowledge of project management and issue tracking and documentation tools; e.g., JIRA, Confluence, MS Teams, Slack, etc
