Job Summary:
As a Legal Counsel - Office of Legal Obligations within our legal department, you will be responsible for helping document JP Morgan Chase’s material legal obligations and monitor for related legal and regulatory changes. You will join a global team of lawyers, project managers, and other professionals who have a strong regulatory awareness and background and who understand the risks to the lines of business and JPMorgan Chase of non-compliance with laws, regulations, and rules. You will use your strong analytical, communication, and collaborative skills to act as a trusted advisor to other members of the Legal Department, as well as to our compliance, controls, and business partners in connection with a broad range of matters, often in a fast-paced environment.
Job responsibilities:
- Working closely with the rest of the Legal Department to develop and maintain an inventory of legal obligations for JPMorgan Chase’s businesses in Asia Pacific and respond to questions from the business and corporate functions about the legal obligations.
- Monitoring, identifying, and documenting changes in legal and regulatory developments in Asia Pacific as necessary, including providing written summaries to the Legal Department, the business, and other corporate functions.
- Researching and analyzing laws, regulations, and rules to assess applicability and impact to JPMorgan Chase.
- Promoting evergreen efforts of the inventory, focusing on quality assurance, consistency, comprehensiveness, and accuracy of legal obligations.
- Developing subject matter expertise on products and services offered by JPMorgan Chase as required.
- Assisting with the development of policies, procedures, and controls.
- Working closely with technology partners to develop technology solutions to support the team’s work.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- A qualified lawyer with 4 years’ experience, obtained either in private practice, law firm or in-house.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely summarize legal and regulatory developments for distribution to a non-legal audience.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with the business, corporate functions, and fellow legal and support professionals.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- A true “self-starter” with the ability to work independently to manage competing priorities and coordinate among a wide range of internal stakeholders.
- Candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to the commencement of employment.
- All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Background in financial services regulation or supporting another highly regulated business preferred.
- Familiarity with regulation of financial products and services.
- Experience with regulatory change monitoring.
