General Manager – Citibank (Switzerland) AG
Citibank (Switzerland) AG (“”) is a Swiss bank, authorized and supervised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (“FINMA”). It offers a full range of banking and investment services to target market ultra-high net worth clients of the Private Bank.
The General Management currently consists of three members and is chaired by the General Manager. It is responsible for the operational direction of the conduct of business and bears overall responsibility for all decisions and instructions given in this connection. This includes the overall responsibility and oversight for the day-to-day business and specific legal entity level required approvals, reviews and assessments as defined in the Articles of Association and the By-Laws of CIBS as well as applicable policies and guidelines.
The General Manager reports and/or escalates directly to the CIBS Board of Directors and bears management responsibility for CIBS towards the Swiss regulator, FINMA.
Key duties and responsibilities of the CIBS General Management includes:
- The direction and management of the Bank, the ongoing supervision of the business within the scope of policies, guidelines, authorizations, decisions and limits set by Citigroup policies or by the Board of Directors
- Chair the CIBS Management Committee, incl. associated governance, preparation and follow-ups
- Liaison with Finance & Treasury to ensure compliance with capital requirements, liquidity and the diversification of risks, including legal lending limits, budgets and planning, business strategy and growth plans
- Escalation to the CIBS Audit & Risk Committee and/or the Board of Directors as and when required, including outside of the cycle of the quarterly governance meetings
- Supporting and overseeing the preparation of the annual report (containing the annual report of the Board of Directors, the annual accounts and the report of the regulatory auditor), the preparation of the interim balance sheets and earnings statements for the attention to the Board of Directors, the publication of the annual accounts and the interim financial Statements
- Attend and present during CIBS Board Meetings and CIBS Audit & Risk Committee Meetings as representative of the CIBS General Management
- Oversight of the development and supervision of the internal control system processes, in particular in relation to the segregation of duties, the compliance function and the risk control function
- The approval of certain business transactions within the scope of regulations or internal policies
- Requirements including, but not limited to, Client On-boarding & Account openings for CIBS
Board Member – Citi Global Wealth Management S.A.M.
Citi Global Wealth Management S.A.M. ("Citi Monaco”) is an authorized wealth management entity incorporated in Monaco and a subsidiary of CIBS since 2023.
Citi Monaco is supported by CIBS’ control and support functions and as part of the current governance model, the General Manager also acts as a Board Member for Citi Monaco and shares strategy responsibility for the legal entity with Citi Monaco’s General Manager.
Oversight of the activities of Citi Monaco on a day-to-day basis is broadly described below under the role of the Swiss Investment Center Head. There is however also a need for updates in respect of the Monaco business to be presented at key governance forums, such as CIBS Management Committee Meetings, CIBS Audit & Risk Committee Meetings and CIBS Board Meetings as required.
Key Responsibilities – Investment Centre Head
An integral part of the role of the General Manager for CIBS is to assume responsibility as Investment Centre Head for the Swiss Private Bank business.
- In line with our ambition of being the best Private Bank for our clients, work in partnership with the Country CCO and the CPB International Head of Business Execution to safeguard and promote a balanced and effective business and working environment for the Private Bank in Switzerland and Monaco
- Support initiatives that drive investment and banking revenue flows that are profitable and support increased returns against capital. Support business execution of key strategic initiatives including, client and business performance, sales management and productivity
- Support the management of client portfolios including clients identified for exit
- Support initiatives focused on improving client satisfaction; driving a culture of excellence
- Support initiatives to simplify the organizational setup, processes and productive capacity
- Member of the Swiss CCC (incorporating Swiss ALCO and BRCC) and other governance forums as required
- Work closely with Switzerland Country Control and Support functions, CPB Swiss and regional In-Business Risk and Control team, and CGW Global Utilities to ensure that the business meets all regulatory and policy requirements as stipulated by Swiss, Monaco and other regulators, Citi Internal Policies and Procedures and Citi Switzerland and Monaco Legal vehicles governance
- Overall responsibility for all internal controls, policies and procedures across CPB in Switzerland and Monaco. Ensure all Key Risk Indicators are consistently managed below defined threshold levels; the quality of documentation is appropriate; and CPB Switzerland meets all booking vehicle governance standards
- Lead governance issues and close-out any follow-up actions raised by the Swiss CCC and CPB Switzerland Management Committees
- Provide leadership support on overseeing people issues and effective execution of Wealth business priorities in Switzerland and Monaco
- Central point of escalation for local Private Bank Front Office staff issues and Client Day-to-Day Issues in the CPB office in Switzerland and Monaco
- Lead effort to implement new business initiatives as well as rolling out regulatory change initiatives across Switzerland and Monaco
- Work closely with Global Market Managers (GMM), Team Heads, Product Heads; and other Front Office areas to ensure resource allocation is effectively coordinated in Switzerland. Provide local oversight of Private Bank Business staff in Switzerland and Monaco
- Provide local management oversight for Switzerland based staff across Business Managers, Client Services, Client Onboarding, In-Business Risk and Control, and Change Management
- Act as local supervisor for the Swiss-based Business Managers and other staff where appropriate
- Provide and report the financial results of the Private Bank in Switzerland working with Finance to provide oversight of business performance
- Work with Banker Teams, Product, Legal and Compliance, Operations and Technology to resolve client issues and drive improved client experience
- Lead effort working with appropriate Swiss, and other Wealth Teams and Functions to drive the preparation and achieve satisfactory ratings for the relevant Internal Audit, Compliance, and regulatory reviews. Lead effort to close out any Corrective Action Plans
- Represent the Private Bank Business at industry associations as well as regulatory consultation in the area of wealth management
- Lead Local employee engagement around Voice of the Employee (VoE) and engagement efforts to create a collaborative work environment leading to strong employee retention/attraction and morale
Knowledge/Experience
- Strong understanding of the Swiss legal and regulatory framework as well as corporate governance is essential
- Strong knowledge of Private Banking and Wealth Management, in Switzerland or in another international finance centre
- Strong understanding of Risk and Controls with the ability to analyse complex problems or situations
- Strong knowledge and experience of legal vehicle financials including balance sheet and liquidity management, financial planning and forecasting
- Experience of managing large and complex teams
- Banker/Sales experience a preference – working with front line staff in helping drive performance improvement
- Strong product knowledge in Risk Management, Product Control and Middle Office is important
- Proven Project / Change Management and Business Process Improvement experience is essential
