Your impact

Design roadways and highways including performing civil design calculations, modeling, and technical comparisons. Research design options while taking a broad prospective to identify different solutions. Provide project cost estimating; develop specifications and assist in solving complex problems. Perform estimating for construction cost and professional service hours, monitor and report on progress and ensure quality of the highway effort is against schedule and budget. Attend project meetings and design review meetings, while interacting with clients/contractors a highway designer. Use design tools AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, and Open Roads Designer. Reference AASHTOO guidelines, Roadside Design Guide, ITD standards, ACHD standards, MUTCD Guidebook, and other industry standards.

Telecommuting is allowed.

Here's what you'll need

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master's Degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field.

In Lieu of the requirements listed above, employer will accept: a Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field, and 1 year of work experience as a Highway Engineer or closely related occupation.

Special Skills or Other Requirements::

1. Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited university

2. E.I.T (Engineer In Training) Certificate, or in progress of obtaining E.I.T. within 6 months of hire

3. G.I.S. (Geographic Information Systems) Certificate.

Expertise/ knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Required expertise/ knowledge includes:

4. Design software, for example, AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, and Open Roads Designer.

5. Roadway Design standards, for example, AASHTOO guidelines, Roadside Design Guide, ITD standards, ACHD standards, and MUTCD Guidebook.

6. Communicating technical reports to non-engineers.
