Real-time applications today frequently leverage network oversubscription to facilitate remote interactions and live streaming. However, when these applications are used concurrently with classical ones like file downloads and cloud uploads, their real-time performance can be adversely affected due to the creation of extensive network queues and the resulting large queuing delays. To address this challenge, contemporary networks often incorporate a certain level of Quality of Service (QoS) for certain critical applications to enhance user experience.
Nevertheless, as the demand for real-time updates escalates and the number of connected devices to the same network growth, merely prioritizing applications could become an inadequate and unscalable solution.
Consequently, intelligent applications can adapt the volume of traffic transmitted to the network in response to live network conditions, a technique referred to as congestion control, which improve user experience even network is congested. Specifically, Prague congestion control addresses this issue by adjusting the traffic sending rate of applications based on packet marking statistics, without resorting to queue or drop packets, and can be integrated as a library with existing protocols for any real-time application.
This internship will contribute to the design and/or development of congestion control algorithms tailored for interactive applications, while also creating a device prototype for real-time application.
Additionally, the intern will acquire experience in researching real-time applications across various access networks, including Wi-Fi, 6G, and PON.
