Consistency: GMI defines and oversees processes associated with the issuance of Structured Notes within Citi, guiding and supporting multiple stakeholders and partners through a consistent operational framework for all, in respect of this activity.
Governance is critical:
Structured note issuance is highly regulated and cuts across several Markets activities, for which an efficiently designed and executed product governance framework is essential.
In GMI’s business, governance requires identifying and managing risks against our defined risk appetite. This is done through data provision and analysis, decision-making and credible challenge from the first, second and third lines of defence followed by agreed actions to keep risk profile within appetite.
This facilitates proper risk monitoring, findings reporting and follow up on issue resolution.
The role:
This role will support the team’s goals, including financial performance, product service and process optimization, client experience and strategic growth initiatives, with strong focus on the design, implementation and monitoring of the complex processes associated to a business dedicated to structured notes issuance. The job requires a comprehensive understanding of the structured products business activities (derivatives, issuance programs, issuer management, treasury) as well as strong organizational skills.
Key tasks:
- Collaborate in improving GMI’s operating model, defining and implementing an in-business governance framework consistent across regions and products, to achieve excellence in business results, while avoiding unnecessary complexity. Streamlining processes will be needed for success.
- Conduct GMI’s broad activity governance-related processes ensuring active participation from all relevant partners and stakeholders, especially those in Risk & Controls, with focus on Legal Entity, Operations and Regulations.
- Organization of monthly GMI Governance Forum sessions, supporting content definition, data gathering and active participation in collaboration with all partners and stakeholders.
- Maintain oversight over emerging and existing risks, issues, control weaknesses, control processes, corrective actions, control validations, and control enhancement initiatives.
- Partner effectively with 2nd Line of Defence teams and support functions to identify best practices and contribute as appropriate to related policies and initiatives.
- Uplift Legal Entity management and related control processes, with tasks including: refining roles & responsibilities regarding Legal Entity management impacting issuance, including their continued ownership for some of them; active involvement in CGMFL’s corporate governance activities; support of Citi Inc. and CGMHI issuance governance matters.
- Regulation oversight: i) regulation mapping with holistic approach (horizon scanning and regulatory implementation); ii) participation in Trade/Industry associations workshops/consultations; and iii) compliance tracking. For i) and ii), it is expected from the role the formulation of informed perspectives, the ability to influence decisions, and the determination of viable implementation strategies, providing issuance business points of views (cross-asset and cross-jurisdictions).
- Operations oversight: improve GMI's oversight on operational matters impacting issuance activities and associated life cycle management, defining and monitoring (including root cause analysis) better business metrics/KPIs in collaboration with Operations and Business Execution
- Collaborate in defining and implementing a better model for Data Governance within GMI, to ensure mining processes can be performed consistently and efficiently. Elements to consider will include data architecture definition (sources, ownership, quality, maintenance), coordination with Asset Classes on data originated and managed at business level (e.g. margins/spreads, pricing systems performance) and user empowerment for data exploitation (guidance, training, tool provision).

- Experience in product governance matters, strong expertise in identifying and managing operational risks.

- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities. Candidate is expected to produce clear and concise written and verbal communication at different seniority levels, articulating complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging.
- Proficiency in legal affairs: The candidate must possess a strong understanding of regulatory, legal and governance policies and procedures. Such knowledge will be crucial for formulating informed perspectives, influencing decisions, and determining viable implementation strategies. Comfort and confidence in navigating legal matters are imperative for this role.
- Proven capacity to excel in a team environment and collaborate with peers. It is essential for the candidate to be able to guide decision-making processes and drive strategic initiatives in a collaborative manner, ensuring alignment and fostering a positive work environment.
