Job Summary:

What You’ll Do:

• Follow a brief to produce complex production ready rigs of a high standard

• Work with the Modeling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging and performance requirements.

• Work with Animators to develop and prototype rigs for a broad range of creative and technical requirements.

• Support rigs as they move through the animation pipeline and developing supplementary Animation tools and processes.

• A good artistic eye, and the necessary software dexterity to produce, or correct shapes and models when it might tighten the feedback loop with another department.

What You’ll Need:

• 3+ years’ experience in feature animation, VFX, and/or animated television with a focus in Rigging

• Proficiency with Maya, and a strongly node-oriented approach to problems.

• Proficiency with Python and the ability to navigate a large managed code base, or willingness to learn in a fast-paced technical environment.

• Ability to troubleshoot and manage communication during the support phase of published rigs, as they move through shots and departments.

• Ability to comfortably work to specs as precisely or as creatively as a brief outline.

• Eagerness to learn and share with your peers, in a development and learning oriented professional environment.

The following will be highly regarded, but is not required:

• Foundational knowledge of trigonometry and linear algebra.

• Experience with character related simulation (soft tissues and localized secondary).

• Experience with cloth simulation.

• Experience with C++

What You’ll Do:

• Create hair, cloth, and fur simulation setups.

• Design procedural creature simulation rigs in Houdini following department standards and workflows.

• Collaborate closely with other departments to create realistic and stylized character effects.

What You’ll Need:

• Experience with software such as Houdini, Maya or similar 3D animation and effects tools. Preferred Houdini Vellum experience.

• Understanding of physics-based simulations for hair, cloth, muscle, feathers and other character-related effects.

• Strong sense of timing, weight, and motion in creating realistic effects.

• Ability to create both realistic and stylized effects as per project requirements.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.

• Ability to articulate ideas and technical information clearly.

• Keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality effects that enhance the storytelling.

• Flexibility to adapt to different styles and techniques as required by various projects.

• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in character effects technology.

• Experience in a similar role within the film, gaming, or animation industry.

• Knowledge of scripting languages like VEX or Python for tool development and automation is a bonus.

• A portfolio showcasing a range of character effects work.

• Excellent verbal, written, and e-social communication skills.

What You’ll Do:

• Navigate from shot lighting to final lighting, meeting project deadlines and milestones.

• Work closely with Supervisors and Leads to design and create lighting for scenes of varying complexity.

• Collaborate closely with Lighting Leads and team members to modify and adapt existing lighting rigs.

• Tackle visual challenges using our inhouse Lighting Tools and contribute to testing new tool developments

• Use Nuke to composite separate render layers into a final image that aligns with the vision of the Director, Production Designer, and Visual Effects Supervisor.

• Communicate with Lighting Lead and Production about current shot progress and any updates.

• Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and open-mindedness.

What You’ll Need:

• Creatively strong and a quick learner, adept at grasping the film's visual requirements, lighting philosophy, and techniques, all while maintaining a keen eye for artistic detail.

• Solid experience in lighting for animated feature films, live-action feature films or animated TV series.

• Comprehensive knowledge of cinematography and the visual artistic elements of animated films.

• Experienced with industry-standard lighting tools (preferably node based such as Katana or Houdini)

• Proficient using Nuke

• Exceptional organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks efficiently under pressure.

• Excellent communicator with a knack for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

• A portfolio showcasing your FX work in animation or related fields.

• Excellent verbal, written, and e-social communication skills.
