The Difference You Will Make:

As a Market Associate, you will be responsible for the retention and growth of long-tail Hosts in an assigned territory within Japan. You will establish and nurture business relationships with emerging professional host accounts by suggesting and supporting strategic initiatives that drive their success on Airbnb. These initiatives will include supply optimisation, pricing optimization, host recruitment, and platform education. In addition, as these Hosts successfully grow on the platform, it will be imperative that you help them maintain best-in-class hospitality standards for an excellent guest experience. Beyond one-to-one account management responsibilities, you’ll also support (Senior) Market Managers on your team to deliver one-to-many education programs, such as webinars and scaled e-mail communication. Ultimately, this team will be responsible for helping long-tail Hosts thrive on Airbnb.

A Typical Day:

  • Prospect and provide consultation to new and emerging professional host accounts within assigned territory.
  • Directly manage accounts to meet and exceed quarterly/annual sales goals. We are looking for someone that is goals-obsessed, is inputs-driven, and is willing to take action (high volume of calls, meetings, etc.).
  • Support scaled strategies to effectively manage & optimise the long-tail of hundreds of Professional Hosts in your territory.
  • Conduct quarterly optimisation calls and business reviews with assigned partners.
  • Secure availability over high compression dates.
  • Educate clients on all significant product changes and cascade feedback on product and policy to the relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to and deliver exceptional service to your professional hosts in a timely and efficient manner, occasionally traveling within your territory to provide in-person support and guidance.
  • Work cross-functionally with product, communications, public policy and customer support teams to ensure our long-term market success.
  • Analyze data and utilize data-driven recommendations to identify and action on strategic opportunities in your region to drive increase in sales.
  • Maintain a baseline understanding of the technical integration of various software partners so that you can provide the right support to your clients.
  • Represent Airbnb in external meetings with Professional Hosts and at industry conferences.
  • Manage Chinese speaking hosts and their community in collaboration with other team members

Your Expertise:

  • 3+ years of experience in new sales, account management and partner support.
  • 2+ years of hospitality, travel or technology industry experience (nice to have).
  • Native or fluent in Mandarin Chinese, as the role will have frequent interact with chinese-speaking hosts, as well as business level skill in Japanese and English
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Proven track record of being able to effectively work a book of business (account management).
  • Hungry with a strong bias for action, and persistent in the face of adversity and objection.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Team player: highly motivated to share best practices and knowledge to help peers succeed.
  • Proficient quantitative skills and proven ability to interpret and apply data throughout your day-to-day work.
  • The ability to get things done with constantly changing priorities, projects and deadlines.
  • Available to travel to assigned markets (when business travel resumes).
  • Passion for Airbnb, travel, and the sharing economy - being an Airbnb host is a plus.
  • Proven experience working cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels, with a proven track record to execute in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, adjust to changes in priorities, and balance short-term needs with long-term strategic initiatives.

In this role you will be leading the host acquisition and host community management through building networks with various types of hosts and stakeholders, including home host, small and large business type host, local community, local governments etc mainly in Tokyo. You will raise the opportunities and challenges of the region and set the priorities that will grow those markets. Together with your managers, you will set transparent objectives, and execute the Airbnb strategy on the ground. You will be a natural born leader, highly capable of influencing and driving decisions with an analytical approach. Your communication skills will be exceptional with proven ability to coach, support and inspire a team.

A Typical Day:

  • Build the brand on the ground with all given levers of brand, comms, partnerships etc. and grow both our mission and the business
  • Ensure successful local planning and execution of our global strategy.
  • Proactively work with Airbnb community to enhance home-sharing that contribute to energizing local community
  • Work with core functions such as Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, PR, Product, Customer Experience, Real Estate, to ensure strategy works well with all departments involved.
  • Proactively identify new business development opportunities within the market. Build relationships with potential partners to drive business.

Your Expertise:

  • >10 years of professional experience of which >5 managing cross-functional teams
  • Background in Entrepreneurship, Operations, Marketing/Business Development or Management Consulting, Community related work is a plus. Proven track record of having worked in a rapidly growing international organization.
  • Hands on experience in community building with various stakeholder is a strong plus
  • Experience in real estate related business is a plus
  • Network experience to stakeholders in key travel and hospitality markets, and also local government is a plus
  • Experience in B2B,B2C and platform business models, strong operational experience.
  • Ability to lead through influence in a cross-functional international environment
  • Native Japanese, Fluent English.
  • Fluent or business level Mandarin is a big plus
  • Very strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • An undeniably positive attitude, extreme dedication, and ability to act as a role model to Airbnb and its values.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, hands on and able to work autonomously if required.
