The majority of your time will be spent orchestrating, coaching, and growing the Control Stack team at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing. This requires collaborating with other science and software teams and working backwards from the needs of our science staff in the context of our larger experimental roadmap. You will translate science needs and priorities into software project proposals and resource allocations. Once project proposals have been accepted, you will support and empower your team to deliver these projects on time while maintaining high standards of engineering excellence. Because many high-level experimental goals have cross-cutting requirements, you’ll need to stay in sync with partner science and software teams.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- Experience managing the full software development lifecycle and implementing software best practices
- Proven track record of collaborating with scientists and/or hardware engineers to develop software
- Experience sourcing, interviewing, and hiring software engineers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- (1) Commercial, academic, or open-source quantum control systems
- (2) RFSoC development platforms + FPGA development (e.g. AMD ZCU216)
- (3) Standard laboratory test and measurement equipment and drivers (e.g. Spectrum Analyzer, VNA)

We are looking to add a Senior Technical Program Manager to support our software development efforts. You will pair with technical leads to plan and execute a continuous stream of small projects that support the software build-out and development of automation capabilities to fabricate and operate our quantum hardware. The projects a successful candidate will work on span a broad range of topics, including the development and implementation of new of tools to ingest data, accelerate testing, streamline and automate operations. These projects do not work on the actual quantum hardware, but rather are meant to drive efficiency, and accelerate our hardware development effort. This role will operate in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity, where the scope and deliverables are fluid, but where a successful applicant can navigate these challenges to make detailed plans and negotiate resources across a matrixed organization. Given the diversity of projects, a successful applicant will have an opportunity to gain familiarity with all aspects of hardware development and testing for quantum computing, and thus will require a capability to multitask paired with an innate curiosity to dive deep.You will partner with other TPMs and work across team boundaries and project lines to identify and unblock resource conflicts. You will leverage your experience in managing complex technical programs to make data-informed decisions at a programmatic level. In this role, you will also support the definition of technical project management standards across the Center of Quantum Computing. How you’ll spend your day

Your experience and qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered.

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or a scientific discipline, MBA preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years pharmaceutical/biotechnology sales and/or account management experience
  • Demonstrated track record of success, leading teams and developing talent
  • Experience in executing and implementing business contracts
  • Strategic account management experience in developing and implementing account-specific business plans as well as the ability to coach and support others in doing the same.

  • Buy-and-bill experience highly preferred

Compensation Data

The annual starting salary for this position is between $148,000 – $194,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting salary within this range and level of role may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

- Regularly provide technical evaluation and feedback to your reports (e.g. via code review, design docs, etc.).A day in the life
The majority of your time will be spent orchestrating, coaching, and growing the Control Stack team at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing. This requires collaborating with other science and software teams and working backwards from the needs of our science staff in the context of our larger experimental roadmap. You will translate science needs and priorities into software project proposals and resource allocations. Once project proposals have been accepted, you will support and empower your team to deliver these projects on time while maintaining high standards of engineering excellence. Because many high-level experimental goals have cross-cutting requirements, you’ll need to stay in sync with partner science and software teams.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- Experience managing the full software development lifecycle and implementing software best practices
- Proven track record of collaborating with scientists and/or hardware engineers to develop software
- Experience sourcing, interviewing, and hiring software engineers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- (1) Commercial, academic, or open-source quantum control systems
- (2) RFSoC development platforms + FPGA development (e.g. AMD ZCU216)
- (3) Standard laboratory test and measurement equipment and drivers (e.g. Spectrum Analyzer, VNA)


Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with one or more of the following:
- (1) Programming language implementation or compiler development
- (2) Embedded systems + strict timing constraints (e.g. bare metal, RTOS, custom Linux builds)
- (3) Software telemetry systems and standards (e.g. CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry)
- (4) High-performance networking technologies (e.g. RDMA, UltaEthernet, UALink)
- (5) Distributed systems (e.g. distributed event streaming)
