This role will be based remotely in Netherlands.

• Minimum 4 years of experience in QA automation or software development with a focus on test automation
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining test automation for large codebases
• Strong background in databases, data management systems, and understanding of database query engines; direct experience is highly valued
• Solid foundation in computer science, with knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degrees of experience in database query engines is a plus
• Passion for quality and an understanding of the latest test automation technologies and frameworks

• Design, develop, and maintain automated tests and testing frameworks for the MongoDB query engine
• Collaborate closely with development teams to understand new features and functionalities, ensuring testability and automating tests to cover both happy-path and edge-case scenarios
• Identify, isolate, and document bugs and issues within the database query system. Work with developers to ensure issues are resolved
• Enhance and extend the automation framework to improve test coverage, execution time, and tooling for diagnostics and performance testing
• Review and approve testing plans drawn up in the design phase of Query team projects. At the end of the project, certify that it has met its commitments regarding test coverage
• Provide feedback in code reviews, focusing on the robustness and reliability of code changes from a testing perspective

• Within three months, you have gained an understanding of MongoDB's MQL syntax and its semantics, as well as the behavior of our unique query engine and its interaction with other server systems (storage/indexes, sharding, etc). You have begun identifying key areas for testing improvements
• By six months, you have established yourself as a key reviewer for automated tests, independently leading the testing efforts for complex functionalities, and demonstrating improvements in test efficiency and coverage. You have significantly contributed to increasing the automated test coverage for upcoming releases
• After twelve months, you are instrumental in shaping the testing strategy for major new features, mentoring new team members in best practices for test automation and quality assurance

This role can be based out of our Amsterdam office or remotely in the EMEA region.

• Build and design new features for MongoDB Atlas
• Become an expert in and improve our systems for automatically scaling and healing database clusters
• Investigate issues spanning from cloud provider integrations down to OS configuration
• Contribute to and lead complex technical projects

• Work with engineering teams across MongoDB to investigate gaps and limitations in existing development workflows and understand new infrastructure and platform requirements
• Design self-service platform services and developer tooling that focuses on reliability, usability, and provides the appropriate level of abstraction from cloud infrastructure
• Regularly write and review automation, configuration management, and application code
• Author and review functional specifications and scoping documents for large platform projects and services
• Own and operate much of the internal development platform that runs MongoDB
• Work on a distributed team that frequently interacts with remote engineers across multiple time zones (primarily PST/EST/GMT)

• In three months you’ll have familiarized yourself with much of our environment and will be able to whiteboard important pieces of our platform on the fly. You will also be making regular contributions to our tooling/services and jumping in to help resolve incidents and respond to user requests
• In six months you’ll have successfully investigated, scoped, executed, and documented a medium to large sized platform project
• In a year you’ll have used your deep knowledge of our software and infrastructure to help drive platform adoption across the company. You will also be a subject matter expert in at least one component of our platform and will have made a number of sizable contributions to our code base that significantly improve the quality, reliability and maintainability of our systems
