PURPOSE & SCOPE:

As a Working student in Research & Innovation at Johnson Electric, you will play a key part in shaping the future of electric mobility by assessing components of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) powertrains using powder metallurgy (PM). Your responsibilities will involve designing gears for BEV applications to meet the durability requirements and enhanced NVH performance. Additionally, you will validate the designs by conducting tests on test-rigs and through in-vehicle testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and analysis of gears using KISSsoft.
• Evaluation of other mechanical components including shafts, bearings and other mating components in BEV transmission.
• Modal analysis of components through experimental testing and simulation.
• Detailed documentation of results and creation of 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Track and monitor tasks, deadlines, and milestones.
• Support the testing and validation of innovative products.
• Document project progress, testing outcomes, and validation processes.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders and teams.

Education and/or Experience:

• Enrolled in a relevant degree program (Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Mechatronics, Energy Systems Engineering).
• Knowledge in gear design software like KISSsoft, MASTA, Zako3D.
• Strong interest in innovation, project management, and product validation.
• Excellent organizational skills and a structured way of working.

Part design, module architecture, tolerance calculations, simulations, system and component testing and customer contact are part of the daily business, leading to the creation of highly integrated mechatronic systems. All this takes place in a globally aligned environment. You will be part of a cross-functional team, supporting in the integration of hydraulic systems for the automotive industry by combining oil-pumps with brushless motors, controllers, software, and additional components depending on the target application. Contribute to the growth of the business by assisting in the continuous improvement effort of processes, design, analysis and testing through bench and vehicle integration.

• Support sample delivery process under the leadership of the program manager
• Support creation of meeting presentations and meeting minutes
• Cross functional project communications based on program manager’s request

• Due diligent documentation of prototype bookings and deliveries
• Willing to learn and understand project management process and adapting processes to real situations
