What You’ll Do
  • Spearhead execution of design verification and reliability testing of Tesla Solar products as well as system level testing in residential & industrial ecosystems.
  • Determine test solutions that optimize for product reliability and durability, DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules.
  • Design and develop custom built mechanical/electrical test setups to replicate real-life field stress conditions and develop hardware and software to automate test equipment.
  • Execute product, subsystem, and component level reliability/durability testing.
  • Conduct test data analysis, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues detected in testing.
  • Design and implement next generation hardware test systems and setups to facilitate reliable design characterization and accelerated life testing.
  • Procure and develop required test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems to enhance creative component and product level reliability testing.
  • Facilitate failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing.
  • Continuously drive design risk burndown to ensure product design is reliable and durable.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to suggest design and/or process improvements and to address reliability & durability issues based on understanding of failure root causes.
  • Train technicians and interns to operate and troubleshoot test systems.
  • Comply with safety policies and regulations.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3-10 years of experience in hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability and durability testing.
  • Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis / post-processing.
  • Experience in CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) (e.g. SolidWorks, Catia, Ansys)
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition and signal analysis using Python, Matlab, and/or Labview.
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor electronics preferred.
  • Experience pro-actively owning and delivering test engineering projects within accelerated validation timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.
  • Experience working safely with high voltage equipment.
  • Proven ability to develop reliability and durability test setups including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing highly preferred.
