This position will be located at
Alstom production plant in Chorzów, Silesian Voivodeship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect the processes and procedures throughout the production and assembly line and advise Jacobs and Irish Rail staff of any changes or recommendations required;
- Be onsite at the manufacturing site (during standard working weeks);
- Report to the Irish Rail project manager and have a working relationship with the project teams of Jacobs, Irish Rail and the manufacturer;
- Monitor the manufacturing and build process against the train specification, relevant railway standards and good industry practice;
- Create and update an inspection report log of sub-assemblies with detailed serial numbers included for sub-assemblies inspected each week for traceability purposes;
- Carry out quality inspections of sub-assemblies at the hold point inspection stage on site;
- Witness testing of systems and vehicles against the approved test documents on site and ensure the testing documents are fully populated by Alstom;
- Provide a weekly update to management of Jacobs and Irish Rail detailing the daily progress logs and works completed onsite and any issues raised;
- Provide a report of the work completed, reporting on key metrics agreed with the project manager;
- Carry out the final inspections and close out of snagging prior to Irish Rail issuing of the contractual “permission to ship” to Ireland - this may require occasional attendance at the factory at weekends prior to shipment of vehicles;
- Create a nonconformity report to log all defects recorded prior to shipping that must be resolved before test and commissioning;
- Create an outstanding issue log of all issues that must be resolved prior to service introduction.

- 10+ experience of rail vehicle manufacturing and rail vehicle systems, ideally from having done past work as an on-site representative at a rail vehicle manufacturing site for the train operator or owner, or from working for a rail vehicle manufacturer with involvement in the manufacturing process - strong need for candidate with both mechanical and electrical experience and knowledge:
- knowledge and practice of railway vehicle: manufacturing process, welding, fitting, painting, quality audits & quality assurance process;
- Must have the confidence to be able to indicate problems such as with build quality or the progress of production to Irish Rail and Jacobs staff, while maintaining a good working relationship with Alstom production staff;
- Must be able to produce concise documentation on production status for reading by Irish Rail and Jacobs staff;
- Must be able to speak English to a level to be able to communicate effectively with Jacobs staff in the UK and with Irish Rail staff in Ireland and on site in Katowice,
- in addition, the ability to speak Polish to liaise with the Alstom staff on site in their own language.
